Treadmill Facts

If you have decided to get into shape, stay in shape or just get moving to keep your heart healthy. A treadmill is a great way to do this. There are many different treadmills on the market and not everyone needs the same type. Buying one that is slightly used at an auction is a great way to save money since many times people buy them and only use them a few times. Their loss is your gain.

Here are few surprising facts about treadmills that may help you in your buying decision.

1. Folding Treadmills are just as good if not better than a stationary treadmill:
With the technology and design of today's folding treadmill systems, the quality of the parts has gone up and they can last just as long as their stationary counter part. In fact, they probably get used more often since they are less expensive and don't take up a lot space so more people are buying them. Stationary treadmills today are mostly found in gyms.

2. You have to have good knees to use a treadmill:
Actually, people with bad knees can use treadmills, just not as robustly as those that have good knees. A person with bad knees probably won't be able to run on a treadmill, but could probably walk at a brisk pace and not suffer any pain in the knee. A lot of knee pain during running comes from the pounding your knees take and your running. There is more force being put on it. When walking, the force is much less and in fact walking can help strengthen bad knees. Of course, of you suffer pain while just walking normally, you should consult your Dr. before giving a treadmill a go.

3. Treadmills are expensive:
Yes, if you walk into a retail store and purchase at treadmill at cost, it can get expensive depending on the model you buy. That's why we recommend you buy one that is slightly used at an auction. You can usually get them at a fraction of the cost it would cost you to buy it in a store and if you ship it ground, the shipping cost is still going to put the whole cost of the treadmill at a lower price than retail.
